A Bolton couple have transformed a Horwich pub to place it at the heart of the community.
Gill Jackson, from Bromley Cross, and Martin Smyth, from Bolton, only took over the Victoria and Albert pub last week as managers – and they have already started putting their mark on the place with a brand new look .
They have created a cozy atmosphere in the pub with a log fire and candles on each table to create a traditional welcoming atmosphere.
Gill said: “I’ve always really enjoyed working in the industry.
“I love working with everyday life and with clients.
“We just want to create a place where people feel safe having a drink, where people don’t have to worry about fights or having their drinks consumed.”
She said her aim was to ensure the pub develops a good reputation in the community.
Gill says she is looking forward to the challenge of running the pub.
The couple previously ran The York in Bolton town center for seven years but have decided to take a break from the industry.
Gill added: “We both said we wanted to get back into the pubs industry, but it was just about finding the right fit.
“Martin is a good chatterbox and he’s brilliant across the bar.
“It’s very exciting now that we’ve renovated it.
“It’s so different and so much better.”
The pub has been redecorated and cleaned, with further work still to be completed.
The pub also offers Cask Ales now, which Gill says is hugely popular among beer drinkers.
Gill and Martin have already met some of the locals who have congratulated them all on their new look.
She added: “It’s a family friendly pub, and we just want everyone to feel warm and welcome.”
They are also working on bringing in more entertainment, like having a singer on Saturdays and a lot more entertainment.
