Rugby fans don’t need to know what happened in 2004 when the Canberra Brumbies took on the Crusaders.
But if you’re new to the game, what happened that night was legendary, with the Brumbies winning the Super Rugby final in front of 29,000 fans. It’s a highlight that looms large in the minds of fans – and this Friday, May 13, history will (hopefully) repeat itself as the Brumbies and Crusaders face off once again at GIO Stadium.
“It was considered one of the best grand finals ever,” says Pete Daly of the Brumbies marketing team. “It’s still the record attendance of the GIO stadium almost 20 years later. The Brumbies haven’t faced the Crusaders at home in a while. Friday we go back to 2004 with 2004 prices on parking, pies and fries. Parking will be $5, while pies and fries will only be $3.50 a night”
But if you want Friday night to be the best it can be, you won’t have to worry about food prices (and who really wants to sprint out of their seat to be front row at halftime anyway?).
That’s because not only could you watch these titans of the game clash in what is sure to be a spectacular match, but you can do so from the comfort of the exclusive Rugby Lounge presented by DXC at GIO Stadium, where you’ll feast on unlimited canapes (good morning, antipasto) with a drink or two from the bar while taking in stunning views of the game.
A special package created for people who want to enhance their Brumbies experience, you’ll be able to access the lounge for an hour before the game (after-work drinks, anyone?) to get settled in, with all food and drinks included, as well as shows for only $170 per person for HerCanberra readers, but hurry, there’s only 20 tickets available at that price (normally $185 per person). As Pete says, it’s the perfect experience for someone who wants a taste of corporate hospitality without having to spend the big bucks.
“You don’t have to be a die-hard rugby fan to have a great time at the game – three hours of beer, wine and canapes, with live music and whatever’s on the pitch, c It’s a great night for everyone.”
In the evenings, a range of draft beers as well as Oatley Wines vino and soft drinks are offered. You’ll also feast on pre-match antipasti, calzone and arancini plates, while lasagne, mini pies and sausage rolls round out Gema’s catering offering. Essentially everything you need to fuel your Friday night.
