Food and drink to try at Korean-American restaurant WEST 32

A new restaurant in the bustling food-heaven district of Poblacion along Kalayaan Avenue, Makati City is bringing beloved Korean cuisine to the Filipino market.

WEST 32, taking its name and inspiration from New York’s Korea-Town street, is the latest food and beverage company from Brooklyn Industries Group Well-known concepts.

The concept for this Korean-American restaurant was born from the CEO of Brooklyn Industry Group Jeff Oh and CEO of Notorious Concepts James Thomas the experience of growing up on the famous street.

The two, who are lifelong best friends, have lived the majority of their lives in America as immigrants. They described West 32 Street as “the strip where they felt most at home with their Korean heritage in one of America’s greatest melting pots of culture and race, namely New York City”.

When they came to start a business in the country, they envisioned a place that had the resonance of “building a home for everyone who visits”. This then led to the creation of the WEST 32.

It aims to be the new hotspot for Manila’s hippest personalities.

The restaurant’s design pays homage to the iconic street and features trendy interiors that complement the contemporary dishes and cocktails.

The restaurant could accommodate 32 people for each round of dinner and drinks. It is located on the first floor of the building where the HQ of the Notorious bar concept is also located.

For its menu, WEST 32 offers a variety of Korean-American food items.

Appetizers

Diners at this restaurant can choose from the following seven entrees:

  • Skillet Corn Chi-Jiu – Yellow corn and tteokbokki in a mozzarella-garlic cream cheese sauce
  • Classic Gyeranjjin – Classic Korean Steamed Egg
  • Cheesy Gyeranjjin – Classic Korean Steamed Egg with Melted Mozzarella Cheese and Cheddar Cheese
  • Crispy Pajeon – Crispy shallot pancake with soy-sesame
  • Crab Caviar Gamja Jeon – Crispy potato pancake topped with crab claw meat mixed with gochujang-aoli and garnished with black caviar
  • Fire chicken n’ cheese tteokbokki – Fresh rice cake in a creamy mozzarella cheese sauce topped with spicy chicken and crispy onions
  • Rosé Tteokbokki – Fresh rice cake in a mild gochujang cream sauce topped with melted mozzarella, cheddar cheese and homemade crispy fish cake

Customers can follow it with the main menu that seeks to satisfy the cravings of metropolitan foodies with its crowd-favorite chicken and beef bulgogi on the list.

Other favorites include the West 32 samgyeopsal, beef brisket kimchi fried rice, and stone bowl bibimbap, among others.

To top off the evening, diners can enjoy a drink or two from the restaurant’s menu, which features a list of soju-based cocktails.

Currently, the restaurant-bar’s best-selling cocktails are as follows:

  • It’s this one – A sparkling, fruity and refreshing soju cocktail made with high-proof soju, strawberry and grapefruit soda
  • korean negroni – This is a mangosteen infused soju in the classic Negroni cocktail reimagined

The fashion-forward space at WEST 32 opens for dinner Tuesday through Saturday from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m.

It welcomes customers without an appointment subject to the availability of tables. All customers are therefore encouraged to make a reservation through its official Facebook page or Instagram page before coming to the restaurant.
