Doosan Portable Power adds a trench roller to its light compaction line

Doosan Portable Power unveiled a major redesign of its light compaction line at World of Concrete 2022, including its first trench roller.

Four new light compaction machines were unveiled: a DFP1520 front plate compactor, a DRP3220 reversible plate compactor, a trench roller and a DRX70 vertical rammer. The DTR3275 trench roller is a new product added to the Doosan Portable Power line, while the other three machines are product updates.

“This is the most significant update to Doosan Portable Power light compaction products since Doosan acquired the line in 2007,” said Joe Tomlin, Doosan Light Compaction Product Specialist. “The old things we had were good things, but they were just starting to get outdated, so we really wanted to try and revamp everything and add more features.”

Previously, Tomlin said, there weren’t many options available on the machines.

Each machine in the range is redesigned and powered by the latest Honda or Yanmar engines. New machine options on each unit increase ease of use and maintenance, including transport wheels available for all models, hour counters to track service intervals and water sprinklers, explains Tomlin. All major machine maintenance points are accessible without tools.

While making service points more accessible without tools to extend uptime, guards have also been added in vulnerable locations to maximize the durability of each machine.

“It’s just slightly different things that we can add to this gear,” he says.

The Doosan DRX70 Vertical Rammer has an optional air pre-cleaner system that reduces pressure on the air filter and extends air filter life five times to lower the cost of machine ownership. Additionally, the rammer’s offset shoe design makes it easier for operators to place the rammer shoe against walls. Six different plate sizes are available. Operators can also adjust the handle to three positions for more comfortable and ergonomic operation for operators of all sizes.

“The ergonomic standards of this equipment are the best possible,” says Tomlin. “The way some of these designs are made makes it much smoother to operate.” Doosan’s updated light compaction equipment is very balanced and the way the rubber bushings and everything are put in place helps reduce operator vibration. »

According to Tomlin, the reduced hand-arm vibration of the Doosan RP3220 reversible plate compactor makes it a comfortable machine to operate. To further increase ease of use, the base plate is self-cleaning.

However, the big draw was the trench roller, which was previously not part of the Doosan lineup.

“Adding a trench roller to our lineup got our dealers excited because it’s something our customers have been asking for,” says Tomlin. The Doosan DT3275 is one of the few trench compactors on the market that articulates left to right while oscillating up and down. It works with a solar-powered wireless remote control.Doosan portable power supply

Tomlin says the Doosan DT3275 trench roller is unique because it is one of the few rollers on the market that articulates left to right and oscillates up and down.

“It’s a maintenance-free seal, so customers don’t have to worry about that,” he says.

Additionally, Doosan’s machine has two different steering cylinders on both sides, rather than just one steering cylinder.

Another unique feature is the solar powered remote control. “Our remote is unique because we have a solar panel charger on the front, so it’s charging all the time,” says Tomlin. “Teams don’t need to get into the trench or worry about loading the remote and plugging it into the machine.”

According to Doosan, the remote works from 6 to 60 feet away, within sight for safety.

“It’s very easy to use and maneuver,” says Tomlin.

The roller, which runs on a 1.3L Yanmar diesel engine, has two speed options and oscillates at 7 degrees to maintain ground contact and prevent rollovers. The device will turn off at 40 degrees to prevent it from toppling over.

Tomlin explains that the Doosan trench roller has an added feature like a compaction counter. While the machine is compacting, a light bar will illuminate with green dots and show operators how they are doing on the job.

Operators can determine the amount of compaction when using the machine. However, Tomlin says for most jobs, they want it as much as they can get. The machine will stop if it identifies itself as being on a surface that cannot be compacted.

“There are surfaces that people don’t realize they’re compacting something on, and they’re not, and you can actually damage the machine,” says Tomlin. The Doosan machine will warn the operator in such cases. “You can’t damage the machine because you know you don’t need to take care of it,” says Tomlin.

As with other Doosan lightweight compact equipment, the trench roller provides easier access for maintenance. “Another thing that sets us apart from the competition, a lot of the panels that wrap around these machines, everyone else’s is a solid piece,” says Tomlin. “We broke our panels so you could take them down to access something. You don’t need to disassemble the machine just to do something.

Doosan treats all of its light compaction equipment the same. “A lot of light compaction equipment looks really cool and it has fancy shrouds and plastic all over it. Eventually when you’re going to do something on this machine you have to take the time to take it all apart. ours open, because it’s just easier maintenance.

Initial deliveries of the new machines are expected in March and should be available later in the spring.

“It’s been a long time coming,” Tomlin says.
