ANIMAL management solutions company Datamars has purchased New Zealand livestock handling equipment manufacturer Prattley Industries, as part of its Datamars Livestock business.
The acquisition enables Datamars to provide end-to-end animal management equipment and technology packages.
Prattley has established a reputation with cattlemen through the manufacture and sale of mobile pens, drafting units and conveyor belts, primarily for the sheep industry in New Zealand, Australia, UK United and France.
Managing Director of Datamars Australasia Matt Cashmore said the acquisition combines Datamars Livestock’s traceability and productivity solutions with Prattley’s material handling equipment to meet growing demand for better traceability to underscore food safety and improved animal health practices.
“Globally, consumers are demanding a sustainable approach to food and fiber production, while biosecurity and animal health continue to be a pressing concern for many economies,” Cashmore said.
“Pratley is a successful business with great people – we want to keep that going, and help the business grow further and reach more livestock farmers around the world.”
Mr Cashmore said Prattley’s range of handling solutions provide a safe and versatile system to help livestock keepers manage animals effectively without compromising stock safety and welfare, and worked with the indicator Datamars Livestock Tru-Test weight scales, load bars and Z Tags visual. and EID tag solutions.
“Animal traceability and management underpins the sheep sector’s ability to meet these challenges, and this acquisition allows us to offer Prattley’s handling solution combined with our existing EID tag and reader solutions to provide producers the ultimate toolkit to ensure best practices in food production, animal welfare and sustainability,” he said.
“With this complete and combined solution, livestock producers are better equipped to track, weigh, process and manage livestock movements in accordance with precise decisions regarding, for example, feed management, sanitary treatment and slaughter.”
Prattley manager Graeme Neighborhood said the merger of the two companies would provide producers with a broader range of animal management and healthcare delivery solutions.
“We look forward to Prattley’s continued growth through Datamars’ global sales and marketing capabilities, as well as their manufacturing and supply chain systems.
Datamars will become Prattley’s primary global reseller, while The Prattley Company will continue to operate from its Temuka base in South Canterbury, New Zealand. All 26 Prattley employees will join the Datamars team.
