Bellarmine fans said the energy was “incredible” at Freedom Hall on Tuesday as the new Division 1 team won a championship.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Fans were excited when the buzzer sounded signaling Bellarmine had won his first ASUN conference on Tuesday night.
“Oh my god, that was overwhelming,” Bellarmine fan Doreen Millon said.
Hudson, 6, was shaking with excitement. “I think I’m going to remember that all my life,” he said.
Fans said the win was even more exciting as it’s only Bellarmine’s second year in Division 1. Unfortunately, it’s the same reason the team can’t make it to this year’s NCAA Tournament.
If you haven’t had the privilege of storming the courthouse Tuesday at Freedom Hall, this video says it all.
While the crowd may have dissipated at Freedom Hall, it only increased at Shenanigans near the Bellarmine campus.
As Joseph Naville said, “The crowd comes here, to ‘Shenan’s.'”
Bellarmine graduate Hanna McKinney did just that. She said: “The owner is at every Bellarmine game, that’s where we came as students. So come back to this bar to celebrate and watch them win their first title as a Division 1 side is super exciting.”
Coach Scotty Davenport joined the Shenanigans in saying thank you.
He went to the bar and told the fans, “Just to show how much we thank you, your first…or your next, because we know it’s not going to be your first, your next drink will be for me. ”
The cheers inside the bar were almost as loud as in the gymnasium.
Whether you’re just starting out in college or starting a lifelong obsession, this is a game you’ll remember.
Clayton, 12, said: “My dad and I have been watching Bellarmine for a really long time and it was really nice to see them win today.”
Now fans are looking to the next season.
